Verse Citation[edit]

The verse notation of Ecclesiastes is different between most contemporary translations of the Bible, and the Latin Vulgate from which this phrase is derived. Following the notation of the Latin vulgate, this phrase is derived from Ecclesiastes 1:10, whereas it appears in Ecclesiastes 1:9 in most modern English language translations.— This unsigned comment was added by Mbeihoff (talkcontribs) at 02:15, 27 May 2021 (UTC).Reply

It's not just modern translations: from what I can see, the Vulgate (and the Douay/Rheims translation based on it) is unique in including this phrase in verse 10. I've looked at the Hebrew and the Septuagint, and they have it at the end of verse 9. Of course, numbering of chapters and verses is a modern addition, so it's all kind of arbitrary. Nevertheless, point taken and parenthetical comment added. Chuck Entz (talk) 15:01, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
