Rfv-sense: "An alteration in a painting, evidenced by traces of previous work, showing that the artist has changed his or her mind as to the composition during the process of painting."
- The definitions at “pentimento”, in OneLook Dictionary Search. seem to principally say that it is the trace of previous work that constitutes the pentimento, which is also consistent with this quote from an unknown source: “With the passage of time and a cascade of fawning magazine covers, Bill Clinton’s image has evolved, leaving the repellent sexual scandals a pentimento in a new, more magnetic portrait.”. The nomination of the English entry for RFV was made by DCDuring in diff, where he RFVed an existing definition and added his own definition instead. I am not sure this is a good practice. Neither the entry page nor citations page has any quotations, so a choice between the two definitions cannot be made based on quotations. The quotation provided by DCDuring above is a figurative use of the word, so does not serve well. --Dan Polansky (talk) 09:52, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

Pentiment(i)[edit]

Everything I've found says Pentimenti is a plurale tantum. Neither DWDS or Duden has an entry for Pentiment, and a quick Google search shows far less German-language results for Pentiment than Pentimenti. Binarystep (talk) 22:53, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Binarystep: hmmm, I was following w:de:Pentimenti which said that the Germanized version was Pentiment, though I accept that Wikipedia is not always the most reliable source. OK, let's restore Pentimenti and mark it clearly as a plurale tantum. (By the way, is it a feminine noun?
