Etymology from Latin?

Can't we say for certainy that Spanish porqué comes from the Latin collocation - per quid? It shares cognates with other Romance languages: Italian perché; Portuguese porque; Catalan per què; and French parce que. Portuguese has an obsolete variant, perque; and Old French had par cel que. These point to a shared earlier point of origin, Latin. As for the form itself, it has been attested as early as the 1st Century AD from Seneca's Apocolocyntosis. Quid is used in interrogative clauses, as opposed to the relative or interrogative adjective quod. Sound changes would indicate the i turning into an e and in, and in Iberian would conflate per and pro. LatinGuy87 (talk) 08:10, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
