Etymology[edit]

Are we sure about the suggested etymology? "Blend of portable +‎ filter"

  1. I don't see any sources supporting this.
  2. "Portable" doesn't make a lot of sense here.
  3. I strongly believe that it comes from the Italian word, portafiltro, which simply means filter carrier. In Italian portare = to carry. Some examples: portapenne, portaombrelli, portabevande, portamonete.
