These definitions are rather disingenuous.

Proto- means primitive, beginning or before. Science is fundamentally about systematic gained knowledge.

So the literal meaning is "first or earliest of kind of knowledge". Proto-science is orthogonal to pseudo science and is realistic definition for the discipline practised by natural-philosophers who founded the fundamental concepts of science.

  • The meaning of a word inheres in its usage, not its etymology. You may be right that these definitions are not ideal but the way to prove it is by finding citations, not by making assertions based on word origins. Ƿidsiþ 09:13, 6 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
