colloquial, nonstandard[edit]

colloquial — Denotes words or expressions that likely arose via casual conversational language, and are likely to be used primarily in casual conversation rather than in more formal written work

The professional historians in the computing field , authors such as Randell, Fisher, Bashe, Pugh, Ceruzzi, Aspray, Williams, Cortada, Grier, Norberg, used punched card. punch card is found in the informal popularizations by authors who mostly work outside of the computing field, Augarten, Eames, Shurkin, McCartney, for example.

nonstandard - Not conforming to the language as used by the majority of its speakers

Same reasoning as for colloquial - the bulk of the professional community used the standard punched card, not the solecism punch card. 69.106.230.78 06:24, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
