Emoji sense[edit]

Possibly not CFI-attestable, but also used on the Web to describe codes that get turned into an emoji when typed (for people whose keyboards can't otherwise produce them). For example, something like :smiley: could be a shortcode that produces a face. Equinox 15:23, 31 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

The WordPress CMS also uses this term for bits of code that expand into plugin content etc., though that's just one CMS so too specific for us. Equinox 18:07, 4 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
