Does "-ism" imply an extreme view?

I modified the article in line with the Tea Room discussion of the word. An additional thought was expressed there that, perhaps, the former part of the definition about "extreme views" could be added "under 'Usage notes' with 'sometimes used to ...' I would have trouble proving such usage, but I've heard it. Putting an '-ism' on something is a little like putting 'scare quotes' around it." [quoted from User:DCDuring comment in the Tea Room]. Economic and non-anarchist senses

I have heard the term used in two senses that aren't currently listed in the entry. The first is a economic sense where a government/state undertakes a significant role in a countries economy. The specific context I heard this usage in was in reference to the economic actions of Reza Shah during his leadership of Iran and have also read it in reference to the economy of Turkey from the great depression to about 1980 (see page 214 of The Modern Middle East: A History by James L. Gelvin). The second sense is basically an umbrella term for any political ideology that isn't anarchist, i.e. supports the existence of a state.
