The noun[edit]

@Christoffre: Why would someone be careful walking on black ice? Isn’t black ice is safe ice?Jonteemil (talk) 21:03, 14 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Jonteemil: You might be thinking of something else. The black ice here is a thin layer of invisible ice on roads and pavements. It is not safe and have led to many car accidents and broken bones. --Christoffre (talk) 00:18, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Christoffre: According to sv:w:svartis, black ice ≠ svartis.Jonteemil (talk) 00:22, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Jonteemil: According to sv:w:svartis: "Blixthalka, black ice på engelska, är en genomskinlig is på vägbanan"; black ice = svartis. I've also added w:Congelation ice as a definition. --Christoffre (talk) 13:33, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Christoffre: Sv.w. says that black ice = blixthalka ≠ svartis. not black ice = blixthalka = svartis.Jonteemil (talk) 15:17, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Jonteemil: A quick google bring up news articles like:
...this is also exactly what black ice and w:Black ice describes. --Christoffre (talk) 00:14, 16 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Christoffre: Ok, I guess it can be used that way as well. Is ”svartis” never synonymous to ”kärnis”?Jonteemil (talk) 08:54, 18 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Jonteemil: I just learnt about that definition and I've never used svartis as "ice on a lake", so I don't know. But I get the feeling that svartis is a sub-category (hyponym/meronym?) to kärnis.
