The quotation that states, and I paraphrase : that to be true to yourself, you must reduce others to the status of a Thing and to not have them do that to you is ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS! No one will ever be true to themselves if they think of and treat others as things. No human being can ever be true to their own inner nature (which is human) while denying that others are also human. In fact, the only way to attain enlightenment in this context is to say that to be true to yourself you must ALWAYS recognize that others are humans and not things, to be used, discarded or disregarded as mere physical matter. A person who treats others as things but aspires not to be treated as such by others is a deluded egomaniac who will always be disliked and disregarded as ridiculous. Also, it is insane to put out the vibe that other people are things and treat them as such and then to expect them to treat you as a soul/as a human. What a disgusting quote.

Thingness. The state of being a thing. What a horrible word to use in reference to a human being.

We aren't endorsing the opinions of a citation when we use it. We are just proving that the word is used, by showing evidence. Equinox 20:46, 24 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

"material" thing?[edit]

> The quality of a material thing; objectivity; actuality; reality.

why is it necessary to restrict thingness to materiality?

what is material about the thing in the following thought: "The thing that I thought when you said what you did, was "how sweet was the saying"." — This comment was unsigned.

A dictionary entry is about how the word is used, not about how some might think it ought to be used. If there are citations for the usage you suggest, then that broader sense should be included. If you think the existing citations don't support the sense given, let's discuss it here. DCDuring TALK 18:50, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
