There is too little information about ve- in the article. There are two ve- prefixes. One is a negative prefix as in vecors and vesanus, the other is an intensifier as in vescor (don't confuse) and vescus. Maybe contracted from valde... All this from here. May have more insight in the many words starting with ve too. Or find another source of explanation.
