Rfv-sense sale, market. Supposedly in Sheltons's translation of Don Quixote, wherein the only quote is as soon as he espy'd the Vent, he feign'd to himself that it was a Castle with four Turrets. That makes more sense for a later definition "a bathing place, an inn". Perhaps we can just put it there instead... Roger the Rodger (talk) 19:54, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- The sentence translates “luego que vio la venta, se le representó que era un castillo con sus cuatro torres”. The only fitting meaning of Spanish venta in this sentence is “roadside inn in Spain”; Shelton translated the occurrences of venta in the immediately preceding sentences as “Inn”. BTW, the definition of the obsolete sense reads, “A baiting place; an inn”. It is not immediately clear which sense of to bait is intended – that of a fight sport with animals? --Lambiam 20:26, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Video game slang[edit]
@Ioaxxere: I see that you created speedbridge, Minecraft slang. The verb vent is also slang for “to use a vent” used by players of Among Us. I have added some quotations to Citations:vent, if you think it is worthy of being added. (I am aware that neither vent nor speedbridge have print quotations, or only one mention for vent.) - @J3133 I'm not sure if we ever had a policy for video game jargon. People defended framerule in a discussion last year, but every competitive game has its own slang. For example: win condition (Clash Royale), stairway to heaven (Fortnite), jungler (League of Legends), gapple (Minecraft), etc. On the other hand, we've been adding terms from card games and chess for a long time, so I don't really know...
