Talk:work in progress

There is an increasing trend to treat "work in progress" as a noun and consequently refer to "a work in progress". This is unneccessary. I believe the distinction drawn between "countable" and "uncountable" is a false one. 2A00:23C4:43A0:3D00:511C:4EDE:E2DC:D1F1 09:21, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

There may be a regional aspect to this- I've never heard the phrase here in the US in the uncountable version. As for it being an adjective: It looks like a choice between an uncountable or countable noun. Water under the bridge is analogous in being both uncountable and a noun.
