The following is an excerpt from the 2007 article "Funny Bones", published by The Guardian, in which Philip Ardagh reviews the Skullduggery Pleasant series:

It's exciting, pacy, nicely handled and it's fun. There's nothing worthy about it, and it's all the better for that.

What could worthy mean in the context of "and it's all the better for that"? Could it mean self-conscious; that is, concerned with literary merit?
