I found an italicized transliteration of a Turkish word in one old encyclopedia[1]. I did not find uses as a French word. Vox Sciurorum (talk) 10:20, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

This shows again the French Wiktionary contains bare entries that are no way the language they are said to be. Speedy and create zabit and zabet (which is, moreover, directly from Arabic ضَابِط (ḍābiṭ)). Fay Freak (talk) 10:51, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I have not yet found sufficient support to create zabit or zabet as French words. Usually in italics as a foreign word. Also "Le khan zabet est le collecteur d'impôts, chargé aussi de l'administration du village"[2] in roman but still looking like a foreign word. Vox Sciurorum (talk) 23:06, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
The position of it not being French is tenable, though I saw it mainly without italics, just searching it with the article "le zabit". It is isn’t even used on Algerian or Tunisian websites for any function. Fay Freak (talk) 23:40, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
The Encyclopédie, ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers, also quoted in the French Wiktionary, contains a typo. The Turkish for these officers is, transliterated, kûl zabitleri. This the plural of kûl zabiti. The fact that the term is italicized in the Encyclopédie establishes that its use there is code-switching.  --Lambiam 20:06, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
