Etymology[edit]
Romanized from Japanese 対馬 (Tsushima). Unrelated to the Japanese word 島 (shima, “island”). When the primary island is specifically described in Japanese, 対馬島 takes on the separate pronunciations Tsushimajima or Tsushimatō.
