Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Hindi टुकड़े टुकड़े गैंग (ṭukṛe ṭukṛe gaiṅg), from Hindi टुकड़ा (ṭukṛā, fragment). Coined by the journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, later popularised after an alleged video of Jawaharlal Nehru University students calling for India to be divided during a protest.
