Arabic and Hijazi Arabic

Hi,

Thank you for your contributions but the value of duplications of standard Arabic in dialects is not high. It is understood that the majority of words in standard Arabic are the same in many dialects. It is much more beneficial to create new (standard) Arabic terms and dialectal terms, which are not used in MSA. Just an idea. @Atitarev Thanks for the suggestion, yes that's what i'm trying to do, either make a non-existing page of a word that exists both in Standard Arabic and Hijazi Arabic or create pages for Hijazi dialect words only, I am doing that mainly because i feel like my dialect "Hijazi" is understudied, so I'm just trying to make it more recognizable and make this site more useful for Arabic learners in Saudi Arabia. plus Hijazi Arabic doesn't have many nouns that don't exist in Standard Arabic, and the written form of the words is the same most of the time. عربي-٣١ (talk) 21:59, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. I meant the edits like you did on قِصَّة (qiṣṣa) / قَصَّة (qaṣṣa) (adding a Hijazi Arabic section), etc. seem like duplications. Many dialects share the same meaning of this word. So, adding Hijazi, Egyptian, Levantine, etc. adds little value to the Arabic contents, even if there are some (expected) differences in pronunciation. At the same time, many basic, everyday Arabic words are missing. --Anatoli T. ^{(обсудить}/^вклад) 07:32, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

@Atitarev well i try to come up and think of words (nouns) that only exist in my dialect and i've added many of them, other than that we diverged from Classical Arabic in verbs mostly and adding verbs in Wiktionary is a little bit annoying to be honest but i'll try to add them and if you can help me with putting up a verb conjugation table for Hijazi Arabic that'd be really great. عربي-٣١ (talk) 12:40, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Yes, verbs are very complicated but the infrastructure is there for all verb types, if I'm not mistaken. We can help you add new verbs with conjugation tables (only standard Arabic). Sorry, I don't think modules for any Arabic dialect will be developed any time soon for many reasons and I'm not the one who can make them well. The verb module for standard Arabic is complete and shouldn't be too hard to use; mostly you just specify the conjugation class (I, II, III, IV, V, ..., X, Iq, IIq, IIIq, IVq) and it figures out the rest. For class I verbs you have to specify the past and non-past vowels. If there's enough demand I could potentially create verb modules for Egyptian and/or Moroccan Arabic, where the verbs are well-documented in Wikipedia (I wrote the articles in question). Syrian Arabic is also a possibility because it's well-documented, but I don't have appropriate resources on Hijazi Arabic, and for that matter I don't even know if they exist. Furthermore, all of the major resources on verbs in dialectal Arabic are written in Roman transcription because Arabic characters are insufficient for expressing the phonology properly (and most dialects don't even have standard ways of writing them in Arabic script), and so if I created a verb module I'd probably do it in transcription, which is fine for me but Arabic speakers might object. Blanking Entries

Please don't. It removes all means of finding the pages, so they don't get fixed or deleted- people forget they exist. Any pattern of bad edits also drops off the radar, so if none of the admins who know Arabic see the pages before you blank them, nothing will ever be done about it. They do eventually show up in Special:UncategorizedPages (which is how I found a few of them), and if anyone types the term into the search box, they'll find it- but in either case when they go to the page all they see is the term at the top of the page, leading them to wonder if there's something wrong with the system.

The proper thing to do is to either tag the page for immediate deletion with {{delete}} or one of its aliases like {{d}}, or tag it with either {{rfv}} or {{rfd}}. The first option should only be used in cases where it's so obvious that any admin would know as soon as they see it that it should be deleted. Otherwise, use {{rfv}} (with the appropriate language code) if the term doesn't exist, and {{rfd}} for other reasons. Thanks! Chuck Entz (talk) 05:02, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
