Welcome[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Ultimateria (talk) 05:44, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion[edit]

Hello, I notice you recently nominated three Korean entries for speedy deletion, but I'm not sure if deletion is the best way to handle those pages. If they are incomplete phrases as you say, can you move them to the correct page names? Or is there another problem with them? (Reminder that the pages are 그쪽으로, 땀 투성이의, and 저쪽으로.) Ultimateria (talk) 05:44, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Ultimateria: Hello. As I mentioned in the pages, the articles already exist on the English Wiktionary: 그쪽+-으로, 저쪽+-으로 and 땀투성이+-의. Dubukimchi (talk) 04:46, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I see. I think {{d}} was the right template for 땀 투성이의 at least, but I think we should open an RFD discussion because I imagine other pages listed at 이리 need to be deleted for the same reason. I'll open that now. Ultimateria (talk) 04:55, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation[edit]

Hello,

Why are deleting {{ko-IPA}} from Korean entries? Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 19:48, 17 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Atitarev: Hello. Because according to Pyojun gugeo daesajeon and Joseonmal daesajeon, there are no standard pronunciations of Korean roots and loanwords. But for 콩콩 and 쿵쿵 entries, it was my mistake. Dubukimchi (talk) 20:34, 17 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello,
Do you mean that you don't want any North Korean entries to have {{ko-IPA}}?
I didn't get the ping, since the ping and the signature should be in the same edit.
I appreciate your contributions - new additions but I don't approve your removals. Why did you repeatedly remove it from 러시아인 (reosiain)? You did it unilaterally without opening any discussion or give any warnings. Please stop or I'll have to mass-revert your edits. Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 04:28, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
