Welcome[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Equinox 18:41, 12 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

removing linking template[edit]

It is usually not a good idea to replace linking templates with square brackets (diff) even in definitions, because they have often been put there for a reason. Even if they are pointless, they don't do much harm. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 09:53, 18 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Definitionless entries[edit]

Greetings, I for one oppose creation of definitionless entries. There was a discussion at Wiktionary:Beer parlour/2014/May#Pregenerating entries and there is a new discussion at Wiktionary:Beer parlour/2020/April#Whole bunch of rfdefs. --Dan Polansky (talk) 11:05, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I'm going to add the missing definitions as much as I can. I didn't add them because I thought a native speaker would be best for adding them --Shiro1998 (talk)

Thank you. You don't need to be a native Turkish speaker or a native English speaker; careful work with sources is all that is required. --Dan Polansky (talk) 14:55, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Turkish cleanup[edit]

Hey. I see you've been working in Turkish recently. Would you mind casting your eye over a few of the entries in Category:Tbot entries (Turkish)? They were creating by a robot over 10 years ago, and haven't been properly checked since then. --Dada por viva (talk) 01:13, 7 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Dada, actually sometimes I go there to do some edits and going over all of them would be only matter of time, thanks for the reminder. I'll edit them tomorrow. Lagrium (talk) 01:53, 7 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

yerküre[edit]

Shouldn't yerküre be with a capital letter Yerküre? --Kriss Barnes (talk) 21:50, 31 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

I looked at it, many Turkish dictionaries show it as minuscule letter. Maybe the Turkish language is an exception to the rule for the capitalisation of the word "Earth". Lagrium (talk) 22:25, 31 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

How about Kanada kazı? Should that be kanada kazı? --Kriss Barnes (talk) 23:13, 31 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

I can't really say, I found it only on Tureng dictionary but that website is not always 100% trustworthy(I saw some orthography errors there). We should wait until someone who knows that type of stuff to edit it or create it as an alternative form of Kanada kazı. Lagrium (talk) 01:48, 1 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
