Russian[edit]

Hello,

Please stay away from the Russian entries, as you don't seem to know the Russian grammar and pronunciation. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 03:53, 23 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Your edits[edit]

You don't have a clue, do you? I am considering mass deleting your entries. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 22:36, 2 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please stop with the Indian language entries! I appreciate the effort but you don't actually seem to know any of these languages. —Aryaman (मुझसे बात करो) 00:23, 20 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
Rohingya is an Indo-Aryan language, it doesn't borrow everything from Bengali. By saying 'derived from Bengali' you are propogating the misconception that the Rohingya are Bengali illegal immigrants, as the Myanmar government has been saying... I don't have time to check all of your edits. Once again, please don't edit in languages you know nothing/very little about. —Aryaman (मुझसे बात करो) 14:40, 23 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

I really like the Hittite language very much (even though I do not know much about it), so I'm trying my best to link more entries PulauKakatua19 (talk) 14:50, 3 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
At least use a reliable source. Kloekhorst's dictionary is available free online. Your definitions don't match up with what I can see in it. —Aryaman (मुझसे बात करो) 14:52, 3 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hittite lemmas[edit]

For future reference, when a source cites a word as "pata-" or "eka-", this does not mean that the Hittite lemma is "pa-ta" or "e-ka". What the authors are citing there are the stems. We lemmatize words at their nominative singular form, which is given in the references. Also, be careful with the grammatical gender, not al nouns are common, e.g "eka-" is neuter. --Tom 144 (𒄩𒇻𒅗𒀸) 03:34, 10 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Adding translations (from Wikipedia?)[edit]

Because you are adding translations in a large number of languages, I'm going to assume that you sourced them from Wikipedia. That isn't bad per se, but it requires due diligence that those translations are attested and it's usually better to also use an independent source. Wikipedia titles are often made-up protologisms, even when equivalent terms exist in the language. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 17:37, 30 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Categories[edit]

Hi! It's nice that you're doing this work, but I would ask you to think carefully about what you are suggesting. For example you added "fascism" as a synonym of alt-right, which isn't accurate at all. I've also seen you adding (basically) "leftist" category to things that might be topics that are politically argued about, in the year 2016 or 2021. Does this mean those words are really leftist words? Maybe. Or maybe not. Just think about it. Thanks for your work. Equinox 01:11, 9 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

You are much welcome!
I wanted to create a list of words that are associated with different ideologies, to help people identify dog-whistles by different extremists and radicals.
The reason why I added them under "fascist" or "leftist" is because these words were often used by fascists and alt-righters (who may have similar views), or by Twitter leftists. I consider alt-righters to be fascists because their extreme views overlap with self-proclaimed fascists, so please correct me if I'm wrong.
Should we separate alt-righters into a separate category? I'm also planning to create several new categories for other beliefs and ideologies, such as liberalism (separate from leftism) and libertarianism (separate from conservatism). I also think that atheist terms deserve a separate category within "religion" because atheism is different from religion. PulauKakatua19 (talk) 01:37, 9 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Alright, I will stick only to terms specifically used by certain groups, not generally-used. If I'm not sure, might as well ask about it on the "Discussion" section. PulauKakatua19 (talk) 03:28, 28 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Category:Old Norse terms spelled with Þ and others[edit]

Please stop adding these to pages. þ, ð and z are completely regular letters in (standardized) Old Norse, like q or x or z in English. The "terms spelled with X" category should be used where the spelling is unusual/using a rare letter.

If you feel like you desperately need to manually add categories, you can add Category:Old Norse runic forms to the pages that lack it! That would be much more useful than this. Thanks, ᛙᛆᚱᛐᛁᚿᛌᛆᛌProto-NorsingAsk me anything 08:35, 2 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that. PulauKakatua19 (talk) 08:38, 2 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Also, if any letter in any language is unusual/rare, its categorisation is done by modifying the headword template/module so it is universal, for example, see Category:Hindi terms spelled with ऋ. —Svārtava (t/u) • 09:02, 2 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Understood. I am sorry that I did not know about this rule. PulauKakatua19 (talk) 09:02, 2 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

The runic forms can be found at [1] and [2] if anyone wants to go categorize them. 70.172.194.25 08:41, 2 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Category:ru:Russia[edit]

Why is this category growing with all these hardly relevant entries all of a sudden? --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 09:47, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Because these are related to Russia, like "Russian", "Russian people", and others. If these aren't, please tell me which relevant category should those entries go, and I will remove those previous categories if these are irrelevant. Right now, I am removing entries related to "Moscow", as the category is supposed to focus on Russia, not Moscow. Initially, I added them because of the terms "moskal" and "Muscovia" being used as insulting terms referring to Russia.
Sorry about that. PulauKakatua19 (talk) 09:58, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Topic cats[edit]

Hi, I think it is quite redundant to categories alternative forms of a term into topical categories. Having the form which is given the main lemma status in the category is much more meaningful, and some words have really quite a lot of altforms that it wouldn't make sense at all to put them all in categories. Thanks, —Svārtava (t/u) • 15:29, 6 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for clarifying.
I will not make that mistake anymore.
PulauKakatua19 (talk) 15:30, 6 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Translations[edit]

Please don't add (and in particular, don't mass-add) translations in languages that you don't know. Please be advised that translations also have to be attestable: WT:TRANS: " [] words added to translation tables are subject to attestation requirements as well." — Fytcha T | L | C 17:11, 10 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Political synonyms[edit]

Hi, just asking if you can please be a bit more cautious when adding synonyms on political slang definitions. An example that I just changed: patsoc and tankie are both slang for different Marxist-Leninist groups, and most patsocs are probably tankies, but the vast majority of tankies are not patsocs, so implying that they're synonyms could be very misleading. Thank you! Zacanger (talk) 04:12, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I understand, and thank you for your advice. Perhaps if I am uncertain, I should share it over at the "discussion" page, especially for the correct definition. I have not heard about "patsoc" until recently, and I assumed that they are like tankies, until I noticed that "patsocs" are more like nationalists in ways that "tankies" reject (like having views that are more in line with traditionalist Western groups). PulauKakatua19 (talk)
In general if you "assume" then you should do more research. See above in February. There's nothing more dangerous than an editor who is both enthusiastic and wrong (except the one who is enthusiastic, wrong, and politically motivated). Thank you. Equinox 22:18, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
This is why I sometimes ask for better suggestions at the talk page, whether at a word or another user.

Archaic Russian month names[edit]

Hello,

I am not happy for you to take on this. You haven't done enough analysis and checking. There are many overlaps. Russian archaic month names don't necessarily coincide with other Slavic month names and may mean a different month or mean more than one month at different periods or according to different sources. That's why I wiped out edits by an IP (who also created {{list:Gregorian calendar months/ru/archaic}} (now deleted) at some stage and started adding slowing my own, e.g. at се́чень (séčenʹ). As you can see, it can mean both "January" and "February" You should be more responsible and do what you can verify. @Tetromino, Benwing2: FYI. Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 00:52, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for clarifying!

@Atitarev Hi PulauKakatua19. I see you've been called out repeatedly by multiple editors for sloppy additions, sometimes with inappropriate political content. I do see you are responding to the messages but you don't seem to be learning to be more careful. Be warned that if this continues we may need to start mass-undoing all your changes or blocking you. Please take this warning seriously and do not make changes unless you're sure of them. Thank you. Benwing2 (talk) 05:27, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think I now understand what you mean.
I was only adding the "archaic month names" on the [Category:ru:Months] category, based on the names used here at the "Russian (archaic)" section. These are old names used for the months of the calendar.
It also has something to do with adding this section at the "Slavic Native Faith holidays" article.
PulauKakatua19 (talk) 06:13, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
The Wikipedia article is badly sourced and you can see that someone questions discrepancies there at [3] - comparing with our Wiktionary. Wikipedia is not a reliable source, it can only be a possible start. [4] will give you a different correspondence. I hesitate myself to add these definitions, since it's hard to confirm, there are many synonyms and what I am able to find is confusing and I am a native speaker. @Benwing2: FYI. --Anatoli T. Tengri[edit]

Hey, I saw your work with Tengrism, and I was wondering if Tengri Tagh is derived from Uyghur or from Turkic or another language. Please modify the etymology to make it correct if you have any opinion. Thanks!--Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:14, 9 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

According to the Wikipedia article for Tian Shan (the Tengri Tagh) Mountains, yes, it's the source of the Tengri Tagh name, in Uyghur. PulauKakatua19 (talk) 01:03, 9 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

pff[edit]

"My favourite languages: Ukrainian" - pffff, Polish (or Czech or Russian) is much more interesting and there's more resources lo learn it. Start editting Polish lemmas, thx. PatkaSsie (talk) 15:25, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I do like Polish because of the nasal ą and ę letters. They look more archaic and classical, so they become more appealing. PulauKakatua19 (talk) 16:32, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Pfff mhmmhmhhm hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm pfff ppleepleeple pleee bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Maybe I shouldn't say this but I don't like Ukrainian very much tbh, it's phonologically boring and quite ugly, Russian is much cooler with its extensive vowel reduction. durably archived Ukropium usage[edit]

I couldn't find any durably archived uses of Ukropium. I found one usage on Twitter and one on Reddit, but these are not durably archived. I found a cartoon at Know your Meme, but it is not quotable since the word is part of an image. Could you add an example? That way, if the word is still in use a year or so from now it will be easy to verify. Thanks, Cnilep (talk) 04:05, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've just added some examples from Reddit. Sources: one, two PulauKakatua19 (talk) 14:26, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
