Introduction[edit]

Old Slovak is a historic variant of the Slovak language, spoken in Slovakia. It is the child of Proto-Slavic language.

Periodization[edit]

Old Slovak, or as it is sometimes called the "pre-standard period of Slovak", is defined on Wiktionary as being between the 11th century (from 1000) to the late 18th century (c. 1787).

It can be further divided into two sub-periods:

  1. The earlier pre-standard period (11th-15th century)
  2. The later pre-standard period (16th-18th century)
