Why?[edit]

Why should we remove this section? It's one thing to rework it, since references are no longer essential, but I think it is important to outline the essential parts of an entry without which an entry cannot exist. --WikiTiki89 00:03, 23 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't have the intention of starting this vote for a while. Let's wait for other WT:EL votes to finish first.
To answer your question: I may support reworking "The essentials" rather than deleting it.
I proposed deleting it in case the 3 votes pass, because the 3 votes should update the sections below with all the information that we would want to keep from "The essentials" and more. So "The Essentials" would merely have repeated information, except located closer to the start of the policy. It could be reworked into a shorter summary; currently it goes on about what "Language", "Part of speech" and "References" are, which is the job of the specific sections below.
As I said elsewhere, I would also want to change the current order of sections in the policy and perhaps move the current "The entry core" closer to the top. It does not feel right to me to keep "The entry core" as a subsection of "Additional headings". --Daniel Carrero (talk) 00:24, 23 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Actually, that text reads like a complete guide about the three sections, which it is not. The text is just wrong, so deleting it seems like a good idea to me. If someone would like to propose a different text to place there, be my guest. But whether that happens or not, EL would be better without the current text, I believe. Besides, I can't speak for others, but I fear that the proposal "remove this wrong text" has a higher chance of passing the vote than "remove this wrong text and replace it by this specific text", which needs to be discussed and may not be approved by everyone. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 21:44, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
