English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From asshole +‎ -dom.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (file)

Noun[edit]

assholedom (uncountable)

  1. (vulgar, slang) The state or condition of an asshole, or objectionably antisocial person.
    • 2009, John Sandford, Rough Country, link:
Maybe, he thought, looking for an excuse, the realization of assholedom was the beginning of wisdom.

Usage notes[edit]

Ofttimes misanalyzed by the native speakers and thus confused with assholehood (the state or condition of being an asshole). The only dialects that seem to draw a clear distinction between assholehood (the state or condition of being an asshole) and assholedom (the state or condition of an asshole) are Northern English dialects which still maintain the "hood/dom" distinction.
