Etymology[edit]

From cagar (to defecate) + -òl (diminutive), from Latin cacāre, Occitan humor. Also probably influenced by similar sounding Latin cochlea (a snail), from Ancient Greek κόχλιας (kókhlias, a snail with a spiral shell).
