Etymology[edit]
From Malay dandang, from Proto-Malayic *dandaŋ, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *daŋdaŋ. Assimilation from *-ŋd- to *-nd- occurred, compare pandan ← Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *paŋdan (the expected outcomes would be *dangdang and *pangdan).
