Etymology[edit]

Either from *torbar, based on torbë (shepherd's bag; knapsack),[1] or from a phonetic transformation *dobëri, from Proto-Slavic *dobro (property).[2] Compare Old Armenian տուար (tuar), Proto-Germanic *tībrą (whence Old English tifer, Old High German zebar (sacrificial animal)).
