English[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From French grande (“grand, great”) + wormwood.
Noun[edit]
- The herb wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), which is used in the production of absinthe and vermouth, and as a tonic.
Usage notes[edit]
The French spelling grande, with an “e,” is used to preserve the distinction with petite wormwood (French petite, feminine of petit, small).
