Etymology[edit]

Sino-Vietnamese word from 有比, composed of (to have) and (ratio), perhaps a calque from a European cognate of English rational, ultimately from Latin ratiōnālis (rational; reasonable), from ratiō (reason; ration; ratio). Compare Japanese 有理 (yūri, literally reasonable; rational).
