Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀖𑀭 (ghara),[1] from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀕𑀭𑁆𑀳 (*garha), from Sanskrit गृह (gṛha, “house, home”).[1] Cognate with Hindi घर (ghar).
