Etymology[edit]
From Middle Dutch knofloick, knuuflooch, a dissimilated variant of earlier Middle Dutch cloffloc (literally “clove-leek”), from Old Dutch *kloflōk, from Proto-West Germanic *klobulauk (literally “clove-leek”), equivalent to klieven + look. Compare German Knoblauch, West Frisian knyflok and English clove.
