From kuuli (ball's, bullet's) +‎ pilduja (spitter, shooter).

Possible calque of Russian пулемёт (pulemjót). Attested since at least 1915, in Anton Jürgenstein's book Suur ilmasõda.

      The aircraft were of two systems, "Albatross" and "Taube", each with a machine gun on top. The aircraft were often armored as well. There were piloted airship zeppelins and "parsevalis" in Germany at the beginning of the war on the 30th.
