Non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 敏 (“to be eager”, SV: mẫn).
The mắn element as in mau mắn (“quick”) and may mắn (“lucky”) are probably unrelated to mắn đẻ, as both words exhibit the regular pattern of -ăn reduplication, deriving from the bases mau and may respectively.
