From Proto-Vietic *k-moːlʔ ~ *k-muːrʔ ~ *k-moːrʔ. Cognate with Proto-Katuic *kmuar (whence Pacoh camoar (termite)), Semai kemur (caterpillar, maggot), Khmer ខ្មើរ (khmaə, flying ant), ខ្មុល (khmol, mole cricket).
