From Proto-Cariban *môkjamo (animate plural distal demonstrative pronoun), from *môkɨ (animate singular distal demonstrative pronoun) + *-jamo (collective suffix). Compare Apalaí mokamo, Trió mëkïjamo, Wayana mëkjam, Waiwai mïkyam, Kari'na mòkan.
