Norwegian Nynorsk[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Old Norse mœðgur f pl (mother and daughter). Compare with fegge m (a father or son in relation to the other), from Old Norse feðgar m pl (father and son).

Pronunciation[edit]

Noun[edit]

megge f (definite singular megga, indefinite plural megger, definite plural meggene)

  1. (vulgar, offensive, derogatory) a disagreeable, despicable, aggressive person, chiefly a woman; bitch
  2. (colloquial) a big female animal

Usage notes[edit]

  • The English term bitch could often be an appropriate translation of this term, except that megge term doesn't carry any sense of sexual promiscuity.
