Etymology[edit]

Probably an abbreviation of obsolete neuropilema, from Ancient Greek νεῦρον (neûron, nerve) + πίλημα (pílēma, felt);[1] or neuro- +‎ Ancient Greek πῖλος (pîlos, hair).[2]
