Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *en-salma, from Proto-Indo-European *séh₂ls (salt). Related to ngjelmë with cognates including Ancient Greek ἅλς (háls), Latin sāl, Old Armenian աղ () and the like.[1]
