English[edit]

Adverb[edit]

ofc (not comparable)

  1. (Internet slang, text messaging) Abbreviation of of course.
    Synonym: (rare) oc
  2. (Internet slang, text messaging, uncommon) Abbreviation of of fucking course.

Usage notes[edit]

  • Whether ofc means "of course" or "of fucking course" has been a point of controversy for years.[1] The "fucking" argument is based off of similar acronyms as GTFO (get the fuck out) and WTF (what the fuck) as well as the existence of oc (of course), although this abbreviation is much rarer than ofc. However, "of course" remains the most recognized sense online. A 2023 Tumblr poll found that out of 2,909 votes, 64.8% favoured "of course".[2] Urban Dictionary includes both definitions, but "of course" has overall received many more likes.[3] In practice, both definitions are nearly identical and it is difficult to determine which sense a particular instance of ofc is applying.
