From pa- + rast (“to find”), with its current meaning being derived from older meanings of the source stem.[1]

parast (transitive, 1st conjugation, present parodu, parodi, parod, past paradu)
- (generally used only in its active participial form paradis) to get used to something, to become accustomed to something (to be such that a certain action or activity has become normal, habitual)
- parast agri celties ― to be used to getting up early
- viņš bija paradis reizēm arī apsvērt un runāt lēnā garā ― he was used to often judge and speak slowly
- es neesmu paradusi saņemt gan pelnītus, gan nepelnītus pārmetumus ― I am not in the habit of accepting either deserved or undeserved criticism
- krusttēvs bija paradis visus likteņa negaidītos un nepareizos pavērsienus sagaidīt ar cieņu un pilnīgu mieru ― (my) uncle was accustomed to accepting all of fate's expected or unexpected developments with respect and complete peace of mind
