Etymology[edit]

New Latin pedipalpus, from ped-, pēs (foot) + palpus (palpus).

pedipalp (plural pedipalps)

  1. (zoology) Either of a second pair of appendages near the mouth of many arachnids, variously specialized as pincers, sensory or locomotory organs.
    • 1950, Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London:
      The defensive movements, on the other hand, involve the whole of the pedipalp being drawn in towards the midline.
