Etymology[edit]

Coined by Mrs. John E. Cook of New Castle, Pennsylvania, USA, for a submission to a magazine recipe contest sponsored by gelatin maker Knox in 1904.[1][2][3]

perfection salad (countable and uncountable, plural perfection salads)

  1. (US, food) A terrine/jello-style vegetable loaf made with lemon vinaigrette flavored gelatin, filled with a chopped garden salad or green salad. It was popular in the United States during the early and mid 20th century.
