English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

peri- +‎ anal

Adjective[edit]

perianal (not comparable)

  1. Of or pertaining to the areas immediately around the anus.

Usage notes[edit]

Overlaps in meaning with perineal, as a portion of what is perianal is also perineal, and vice versa. Also overlaps in meaning with perirectal, as the skin around the anus has often been called both perianal skin and perirectal skin, notwithstanding that the former is more anatomically precise.
