Egyptian[edit]

Pronunciation[edit]

Proper noun[edit]

p
p
ii

 m

  1. A male given name of historical usage, notably borne by Pepi I Meryre, Pepi II Neferkare, and Pepi III, pharaohs of the Sixth and Sixteenth Dynasty

Usage notes[edit]

Some authors read the signs of this name in a different order, as pjpj. However, attested writings of the name as
p
p
i i
in vertical script and
ppii
in horizontal script strongly argue against such a reading, whereas no instances of the spelling *
pipi
, which might be expected for the reading pjpj, have been found.
