English[edit]

Noun[edit]

probability paper (uncountable)

  1. Graph paper with vertical and horizontal rules, the latter spaced evenly and the former according to a scale that allows a plotted probability curve — usually that of a normal distribution — to appear linear.
    • 2003, Herbert Aron David, Haikady Navada Nagaraja, Order Statistics, 3rd edition, Wiley Interscience, page 2:
Are the data really in accord with (a) the assumed distribution and (b) the assumed model? Clues to (a) may be obtained from a plot of the ordered observations against some simple function of their ranks, preferably on probability paper appropriate for the distribution assumed.
