Etymology[edit]
From re- + mexer (“to move; mix”), or from Latin remiscēre. Cognate with Portuguese remexer or Spanish remecer.

- (transitive) to jumble; to disturb
- (transitive with en) to rummage (to hastily search for something in a confined packed space)
- (intransitive, figurative) to investigate
- (takes a reflexive pronoun) to move freely

- I can't move here, as it is so packed with things

- (transitive with em or with no preposition) to rummage (to search hastily and carelessly)
- Remexi a casa até encontrar o livro.
- I rummaged the house until I found the book.
- (Brazil, takes a reflexive pronoun or transitive with a part of the body, informal) to swing; to move; to shake (to dance in a lively manner)
