Maltese[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Arabic رِزْق (rizq, livelihood, sustenance; divine provision), from Middle Persian 𐭫𐭥𐭰𐭩𐭪 (rōzīg). The new standard spelling with -s- is due to the fact that the noun has no root in Maltese, in which case words are now spelt phonetically rather than etymologically.
