English[edit]

A regular septagon

Etymology[edit]

From Latin septem (seven) + Ancient Greek γωνία (gōnía, angle), equivalent to septa- +‎ -gon.

Pronunciation[edit]

Noun[edit]

septagon (plural septagons)

  1. (proscribed) A polygon with seven sides and seven angles.

Usage notes[edit]

Because septagon is formed by combining Latin septem (seven), with Ancient Greek γωνία (gōnía, angle), it may be considered less correct than heptagon, which has a fully Greek etymology.
