Etymology[edit]
- From Malayalam സറാന്പി (saṟānpi). Compare to Tamil சிறாம்பி (ciṟāmpi).[1]
- From Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *surambi ~ *surambiq (“extension to house”). Compare to Old Javanese surambyan (“outer verandah, front porch”).
