Borrowed from Swedish slöjd (sleight of hand, skilled or crafty), from Old Swedish sløghþ, from Old Norse slœgð, from Proto-Germanic *slōgiþō, from *slōgiz (cunning) (whence English sly). Doublet of sleight.
